I may not be on the internet much for the next week or so. My dsl modem died today, so I called Earthlink, and after running through the troubleshooting scripts that their "tech support" in India had (I spent 3 years doing tech support for high speed internet and these idiots were clueless), they said I needed a new modem. For which I would pay $39.99 for shipping and have to sign a new 1 year contract. After escalating the call to customer service and a manager (in India), I discovered that 11 years of being a loyal customer was not appreciated. Since i do have backup dial up, I did some shopping and called Verizon. For the same price I'm paying for 1.5 MBPS, Verizon will give me 7 MBPS, plus a discount on my phone bill. So , I'm waiting on my new Verizon modem, and for my service to be activated.
Eathlink's customer service has gone way downhill since their former CEO passed away. All you get is the runaround. It took them 3 months just to tell me there were no faster packages available. I started with Mindspring, who was great, but once Earthlink bought Mindspring the decline began.
So goodbye Earthlink. You suck. And it serves you right for outsourcing jobs to India, while we here in America (who pay your bills) have many people who would not only love to have those jobs, but would provide much better service.
