Okay, I'm gonna update, 'cause I keep thinking about things I should update about, but I just havn't done it. Having said that, I'm probably not going to end up putting any of those things in here... but that's just 'cause I'm a wanker like that.
Kay, so I spent most of last week bed-ridden and near death, which meant that I wasn't able to make it out to Regina as planned... however, this meant that I actually managed to scrounge JUST enough cash to get myself some gas so I can make it down this weekend. Probably better in the long-run, since I would be really upset if I weren't able to get out and see lyinghostage on one of his rare visits to the hometown.
Work is slowly starting to suck ass again... stupid policies coming down that make the job more difficult than it needs to be, instituted by people that haven't done the job for any length of time in the past 4 years. What's more is this policy that just came into effect this week has been the little brain-child of one man for nearly a year and a half, and throughout this entire time, EVERY single one of us that actually DOES the job on a daily basis has told him, "What the hell are you thinking?! There's no reason to do that, and it causes problems where there shouldn't be. What's more, the ONE operational advantage there is to this procedure doesn't even apply to this base!!"
This, despite the undeniable logic of it, and despite the fact that it was coming from a number of people that do the job well and on a consistant basis, did absolutely nothing to disuade him from this foolish course of action, and now we all have to suffer for a time until the mucky-mucks higher up realize it is, in fact, a problem... in exactly the ways they were warned it would be.
The only solace I get from this is the vindication I will feel when, finally, he'll have to 'fess up and admit the fact that we were all right in our assessment of the plan, and his stead-fast disregard for our expertise was misguided and ill-advised.
This wouldn't even annoy me this much if it weren't for the fact that a VERY similar plan was trialled not too long ago in another section of ATC, and was found, very quickly, I might add, to be a COMPLETE failure. In fact, that plan was kiboshed before the trial-run was even completed. Naturally they were warned of the pitfalls of THAT plan prior to it's inception as well. Warnings which were promptly ignored then, too.
Ah, well. Yet another example of someone utilizing their responsibity with blinders on.
Having said all that... I'm still working one of the best jobs in the world, and wouldn't give it up for anything. Certainly the sum-total of anything negative that I have to deal with doesn't even come close to measuring up to all the joy I take out of doing the job.
