Scout, 2001-2010
"I think there's just one kind of folks. Folks."
-Scout, To Kill a Mockingbird
After developing osteosarcoma in her right proximal humerus, having her right leg removed, and enduring chemotherapy for half a year, Scout has finally succumbed to illness.
Even at the very end she was happy and interested in squirrels and meeting new people. She loved the summer heat, the sun, and lounging outside. Amy and I miss her terribly. Wednesday was a cruel in so many ways, but Scout is no longer suffering.
But even that solace is cold, tasting of ash and loss. Our other dog, Nefret, has started looking for her when she goes out.
Scout never met anyone she didn't immediately, and energetically, love... assuming, of course, you weren't a squirrel. Or a possum. Or a skunk.
Nefret is not alone in looking for her when we go out.
She would have loved you.
