We made it back safely, with no trouble on the roads until turning onto side streets in Portland. Our street is a slushy mess, but we lived through it!

Now comes the relaxing evening of couch-sitting and cat-petting. Unpacking will come later.

It is good to be home.

glad your trip was full of safety!

see you tonight!

A safe journey in this weather is much to be appreciated. Welcome home.

Hmmm. Maybe we should have left yesterday when there was almost no snow on the ground. The problem was we are now driving down with my brother, who had to work yesterday. He lives in N. Portland, and now we're just waiting to see when he can get over here. I'll be happy if we can leave by 9:00. Checking the ODOT cameras is my...

I got to try out the studded tires in real weather yesterday, since my work was dumb and open. They performed pretty well, except for a tiny bit of spin when I was starting from a dead stop. Slow and steady worked well, even if assholes behind me were impatient. Hey buddy in the SUV with no traction devices, some of us don't want to...

happy winter! I'm glad you're getting snow up there. It means there is a chance that the drought will end.
bridgetwnpeddler:
keep an eye on I5 in northern cali and get some good information before you leave. It has been either closed or only open if you have chains and they run you through with an escort... so it could be REAL slow going.

Good luck and travel safe.

It's snowing! And sticking!

I'm so glad I got the studded tires put on already, and that I braved Costco yesterday instead of trying to go today. I'm such a good planner! Yay for me!

I wonder if I'll have tomorrow off from work? There are always advantages to working on a hill in a city scared of snow. Fingers crossed...

Both of my yoga instructors go on vacation over the holidays. Yesterday, my male instructor reminded us that he's leaving in a week and a half, and that our substitute would be my other instructor. After class, I told him that she's out of town roughly the same time as him. He good-naturedly said "oh well, I'll have to find someone else." Then he looked...

bridgetwnpeddler:
Yeah I think you should have a bit more training than having just been to a bunch of classes to teach yoga but it all depends on the studio. The last two I went to had people who had trained for a long time and they really helped me with my positioning and showed me how I had been doing some wrong for so long. But nevertheless it would be flattering to be asked.

Work on a hill and need studded tires eh? I have never driven a vehicle with studded tires, if it gets that bad out I get chains but that is usually for only going up to the mountain.

Good luck. I do hope it snows I love snow. smile
bankerboy:
Sucks about the food, cool about the yoga!

As for the weather...it is going to be an interesting few days!

Animal Crossing ate my brain. And most of that long weekend. I never thought a videogame that involves paying off your house, fishing, and picking fruit could be so damn addictive.

Texting has been restored.

Thanksgiving was lovely and delicious. My apple pies with crumb topping turned out liquidy but good. We just had to eat pie in a bowl instead of on a plate.

Leftovers in the fridge, turkey stock on the stove. Soup is in our future. love

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving too!

mrginger:
Soup with wild rice in it?
bridgetwnpeddler:
Pretty simple actually...

3 bottles red table wine (if they don't have that usually use Cab)
4 cinnamon sticks
3 large oranges sliced with peels on
1 small can frozen juice concentrate (I use apple but cranberry or raspberry works well also)
1 teaspoon each whole allspice and whole cloves.

put it all in a big pot on the stove over low heat. I let it heat for about 40 minutes or so before I start to mess with the temp at all just to bring it up slowly. Then just heat to your desired level and drink away.

You know what's awesome?

When you realize that your phone mysteriously stopped receiving text messages two months ago, and you wonder just how many people now think you're a total bitch for ignoring their texts.

Fuck you, AT&T. We will have words as soon as your stupid call center is open again.
brokenbeatnik:
Oh, that's ass!
bankerboy:
I thought it couldn't get any worse than Sprint, but AT&T hasn't been puppy dogs and lollipops!

You two going to any shows in the near future?

Whoa, I went grey there for a bit, didn't I? Well, don't worry everyone who totally noticed I was gone, I'm back! wink

Snark aside, it's good to be back. Those two weeks were rather harrowing without this place.

I have never let mine expire before so never seen those emails... but that is cheaper maybe I should let it expire this year. It does next month. I bet they are desperate to keep subscribers in this environment so the offer comes faster.

I volunteered for the night shift, but they haven't had an opening yet.

Stupid sore throat infringing on my weekend. At least it doesn't feel like I've swallowed a burning hot coal anymore.

Now comes the congestion. frown

NOOOOO the cold season must not start!!@!!

thank youuuu porkchop sandwiches!!!!! no wonder we didn't see you at brunch....

Today seemed to be the textbook definition of Lazy Sunday. Here it is, almost 9:00 at night, and EnergyChannel and I are still sitting on the couch in our flannel pajamas and robes. He managed to roast a delicious chicken, and I managed to wash some dishes, but I had much higher hopes for the day. I was going to go to the gym, and...

I'll more than likely not be able to go into work, but I'm not exactly sure if I can be at the brunch. I'm not fully mobile yet, and have not yet incorporated solid foods into my diet. Boo. This sucks.

Only in an honorary sense. biggrin

Mmmm, election season. I just saw an anti-Gordon Smith ad, followed immediately by a pro-Gordon Smith ad, followed immediately by a different anti-Gordon Smith ad. surreal

This is why I love DVR and Bit Torrent.

yes I agree, love the DVR. Just came back from vacation and had three Netflix and a DVR loaded with goodies waiting. Of course it is so beautiful this weekend I have to get out more instead of camping out as I had intended.
