i'm going to atlanta this weekend to see weezer, i'm sort of "eh" about the band but it will be nice to get out... i've been quite the groupie this year. arcade fire, drive-by truckers, le tigre, tons of local acts. i guess i'm flexing my concert muscle again. i quit going for so long after that awful music midtown experience, with the drunk and shirtless frat boys, the getting crushed at the indigo girls stage... and i didn't even get to see any of the bands i wanted to see. i am very "i'm a grownup and will go wherever i want" at the moment, rebelling against schedule and finance.
i've had a local photographer ask me to model for him. i guess he heard through the grapevine that i used to model, but i'm not sure if i'm terribly interested in nude arty photography anymore. it's not really fun, and unless they're a late-model mapplethorpe the results are dull as dishwater. and this might get me in trouble with the art students, but i think pin-up style photography, male or female, if well done, is way more honest than chintzy b&w nudes of the kind in my profile pic. that genre seems to want to suck the rawness and the eroticism out of nudity for the sake of composition and light, and whatever, but you'd better be good at it and be saying something new with that style. hell, i only keep that picture because it's boobs, not because it's doing thrilling things with a camera that no one has ever seen before. the only arty nudes that have gotten me excited are ones done by an old friend of mine; he was very into contortionists at the time, and that inspired this series of motion shots of himself in very bizarre positions and the pictures looked all tortured and amazing and had great tension. i should find some to scan.
