So what am I doing on this lovely Saturday night? Well, I started by eating half a jar of kimchi, then decided that wasn't enough and made bacon and eggs. Then I did laundry. Now I am munching on goldfish crackers, drinking red wine and playing around with Victorian style doodles.
I attached my favorite. I haven't sat down and drawn in YEARS! It feels...

I spent a great night watching rockabilly bands and burlesque! Genius combo!

And now to begin the new year, some hilarious cartoons about Queen Victoria!

Normally I would totally agree. But sometimes a much-needed day off requires a little extra decadence.

Nothing is better than a rainy day off, sipping coffee with my sweetie while still in jammies (my SG pajama bottoms, by the way). He and I both get little down time, but on the plus side, it really makes me appreciate moments like this. Here is am, over on the bed with my laptop. I look over at him on the couch reading, the...

I have changed my name.

One of the main reasons I joined SG is because I thought I could express a part of my self that I can't most other places. When I first chose a user name I was trying to think of something cheeky and clever. The thing is, in building profiles, I tend to construct someone I want to be. Or rather,...

Hello, Dickens. Reading your profile, I was reminded of a quote you may know: "There is nothing better than a friend, unless it is a friend with chocolate." Sounds like something you might say (and in a sense have).

Art history is a fascinating subject, though probably more so to someone who doesn't have to do it for a living (as usual, work spoils everything we love). If you are so inclined I, for one, would love to know more about what you do (a sample of your writing, perhaps).

In fairness, I didn't know Dickens was neurotic and spastic - that's ok, you probably aren't either. Nice to meet you.
dickens:
Hi, knives2meatyou too.

I have heard that saying, and yes, it does sound like me! Being an art historian, I definitely have to love what I do, and luckily it hasn't spoiled it for me. My views on academia and sales however ... well, that's for another rant. I still find art (and talking about it) endlessly fascinating. Ask anyone who has ventured into a museum with me. I am insufferable!

I was thinking of Dickens more like a double entendre, like describing a mischievous, hyper-active person as a "little dickens." But yes, actually Dickens himself was a complex personality, as most great artists necessarily are.

My writing mainly consists of press releases now. Sigh. Most art history papers require more length and attention that a blog can usually provide. But I'll see if I can't think of something if you're really interested. And hey, thanks for being interested!

My life has been very frustrating of late. My job is an infinite source of stress and to make matters worse, I've been dealing with a back injury so I have not been able to work out like I used to. On the bright side of things I am getting better. However, without my usual way to vent these pressures I've been drinking way too...

Well, perhaps I'm a wuz, cause I never thought of using boxing as a stress reliever. Now drinking... that's a different story. I can put away lots of that stuff!

Hope you begin feeling better.

I know this is over a month ago, but I haven't been on in a while. I just wanted to say thanks for the well wishing!

In the world of sexual expression it can often be hard to find examples that are not degrading or hurtful to women. So often women are the victims (raped while passed out at a party - really guys?! You should be castrated!) or doe-eyed damsels (learning about sex through her smoky and worldly bronze-chested rescuer). Gag. Retch even.

It's one of the main reasons I...

I just saw a fantastic play by Sarah Ruhl! It's called Melancholy Play, and if anyone out there has a chance to see it I highly recommend going. If you're in Seattle, it's playing at the Freehold Theatre in Belltown. I saw Dead Man's Cell Phone last year (also by Ruhl) which was really good, but this one blew me out of the water. It...

Curiouser and curiouser.
I not only begin my first SG blog, but so starts the first blog entry I have ever written. Being an art historian, I am used to writing about other people. I think about what inspires them and in what ways they express themselves to the world. It is another thing entirely to write about oneself. This being the first, there is...

Just be careful or like Alice you will find that a change has happened without your notice, Just as she was forever altered from the girl who went down the hole, so shall you be. Of course change can often be the best things for us. Hope you enjoy the site, and welcome.
