So sorry for the loss of such a dear companion. I have a couple thoughts about animals and the afterlife... my perspective comes from a Christian slanted position, as I spent a lot of time in and out of church. First of, in the Bible is says that creation started with Adam and the animals in a garden paradise and then Eve was created to join them. Prior to the whole satan as a snake and the eating of the Apple, Adam, Eve and all the animals lived peacefully and all Adam and Eve had to do with their day was take care of the garden and the animals. (Hang in there, I do have a point) After the whole apple eating debacle, Adam and Eve were kicked out of paradise. At that same time, the unique relation to the animals was lost too. Ever since that time, we have all been trying to regain paradise. At the end of the bible it speaks about the return of paradise with everyone in a human, but spiritual, form. The bible talks about Jesus walking with his disciples after he rose from the dead and was in his new spiritual form. Although they did not recognize him right away, they didn't run from him scared like he was a ghost. So, if the bible has us returning to paradise in a spiritual form that we will ultimately recognize one another and paradise was originally designed with the animals in the garden, why wouldn't we be with the animals in the new garden paradise. And further, if we can recognize each other, why wouldn't we recognize the animals and they recognize us too? Many of the major world religions have animals in the afterlife, whether they are actually worshiped or just present. So, I have no doubt that if one believes in the afterlife, then one should believe in the afterlife of all creatures. I hope you did not read this as a boring bible lesson, but that It gave you some encouragement...
