To the beast of my knowledge, it's an affectionate expression, probably more common in the UK. I'm at the point that pretty much everyone is young compared to me and the exceptions are not generally much older than I am, if we're restricting the discussion to those still properly referred to in the present tense.  No ex parrots nailed to the perch and all that. There is so very much wrong with the world today but we also have so much to be thankful for and delighted by. We have you, the LHC and Jim Floyd who is now the oldest man in Canada. I can't imagine anyone more deserving of a long life than him so there is much cause for hope. Good things definitely happen. 😊

Case in point: tonight I called out sick from my night job. But I did not lie! I told my boss: "I'm having stomach issues." Translation: "I can't stomach the thought of coming to that @#$%ing hellhole." Truth is all about phrasing.
