hey, SG friends....a famous detroit baseball announcer passed away today...and had my father lived, he would have been the same age as ernie harwell...my dad loved baseball and died happy on one april opening day seventeen years ago...so i hope you can enjoy my little tribute to dad and ernie:

in my belief system, ernie joins my dad in heaven!
here's a short tribute to both for my family and friends!

"dad and ernie call the plays"

the heavens above
now have the "voice" of ernie harwell
to join the baseball brilliance of angel clarence joseph....
i see the tigers taking off from this point
... c.j.s. whispers the confidence-boosting tips
into the ears of each and every tiger
with the slight georgia drawl and
soothing bassvoice of ernie's angel!
all-knowing the stats, the odds of each
and every situation and response to take,
hits, runs.....and no errors....
america has its roots back...for another spring!

enjoy the summer of 2010...and root, root, root for the home team....

Hall of Fame broadcaster Harwell passes away
The man who will forever be the voice of the Tigers is gone, and the baseball community is left silent in remembrance. Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell passed away Tuesday at age 92. Harwell spent 42 seasons broadcasting in Detroit, where his Georgia tones became part of the sound of Michigan summers, before retiring after the 2002 season.

Through Harwell, fans came to know Tiger Stadium by its location on the corner of Michigan and Trumbull, recognized double plays as "two for the price of one," and home runs as "looong gone!" They still associate called third strikes with Harwell's phrase that the batter "stood there like a house by the side of the road."

The accolades deservedly followed over the years. He was honored with the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981, earned induction to the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, then the radio sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

Everyone knew this day was coming, but it didn't make it any easier to handle.
