You pretty much describe how I felt when you wrote that, but none of us can avoid disappointment and pain completely because it's impossible to predict future events with any kind of certainty. There is an unknowable number of variables that affect peoples' perceptions of the world, so others will never see things exactly as we do, therefore surprises are inevitable and some of them will be unpleasant ones.

You will get over it, pick a direction and see where it goes. It's another learning experience, even if it does suck.
