We all want a good romantic relationship of course, but even in the absence of that, it's gratifying to have one or more people to love just because they're wonderful and we're thrilled to have them in our lives. We're all equipped for this since we generally love our parents and siblings in just that way. BTW, I define love as feeling great when we see the other person happy. This is nice because we can remain close to nieces and nephews or friends indefinitely, even if we couldn't get along trying to live with them, and age differences aren't necessarily a barrier in these sorts of relationships. It does beat having only disappointment and cats, not that I'm knocking cats, you understand.
