The dress. Yes, it's going to OZ with me, but I may not wear it. First of all, I guess it's damn chilly out there. Second, these people lready don't like me just because I took Austin away from there, not to mention the pink hair, tattoos and piercings, so I don't think a tight fitting revealing dress is the way to go. A not so tight fitting revealing dress and stripper shoes...maybe.

Depending on the sitter situation (for David) and your store location, I can pull of a little more than part time. Oh and I've realized just how important I am in the scheme of things....How many pre teen boys will keep spending money in your store just to talk to the cute cashier chick? And how many lonely older guys will make the extra trip to the comic book store just for the two minute interaction with a real life woman? Yeah, you need me. wink
dabeergyrl:
Lol, you should call Trading Spaces...because the only thing worse than f*cking up a home-improvement/redecorating job yourself, is having your friends do it for you!! wink

There needs to be more Kool-aid in the world. If everyone kept drinking kool-aid everyone would be happy. No one would have any teeth, but we'd all be happy. biggrin
smashedpumpkin:
you're opening a store? what kind? good luck with that. i know they say small businesses have a high failure rate but i think if you're really into what you do, it'll work out.

actually, i tried to sign up for philosophy of macrame but that class fills up so quickly! wink
anomaly4u:
Ya know I have been meaning to email you.Did'nt I read you are opening a comic book store?
I am in the process of opening one myself. After YEARS of managing other peoples comic shops sucessfully I am finally taking the dive and following my dream. I will run it myself for a year or two and then probably train my daughter to manage it with some of here college girlfriends working there.
I got lucky as recently a comic shop in another town went out of business and I aquired all thier inventory of hundreds of Graphic novels, 37 statues, tons of action figures and toys and loads of Manga and gaming merchandise all for one thousand bucks.
I also recently got two large display cases and some other fixtures. I am presently writing my business plan.securing a spot, getting insurance, contacting publishers about promotion, have accounts with various distributors and have my accountant in place ,who is just amazing. One bit of advice she gave me that I will pass on to you.She told me rather then apply for a loan through the bank, to apply for a business credit card with a line of credit. This way you only use what you need as you need it instead of owing the bank a large lump sum that will reflect in your payments. Also the interest rates are lower and you usually only pay the interest for 6-12 months.
At first I was going to get a micro loan through the small business administration but the Bush administration recently is in the process of eliminating any funds for micro loans ($35.000 or less) for small business start up through the goverment run SBA.(This from the man who said at the begining of his first campaign "Small businesses are the backbone of America.")
Anyways best of luck and don't give up. Running your own business (especially a comic book shop) is the way to go! Comics need to be as accepted as part of our culture and an artform as much as it is in Japan and other countries.
Read Brian Hibbs online info about running a comic shop. It's called "Tilting at Windmills",its always full of great info and Brian is one of the most savvy retailers out there.
Let me know if you ever have any questions. Comic shop retailers need to work together to make the industry thrive. It should not be competetion but cooperation.
Best to ya. smile
