yikes

I just got home from a Christmas party that the boss of the bar I work in threw.

Overall it was a blast. The joint has a full kitchen and one of the cooks and the bosses put out one hell of a spread for dinner: standard holiday food and lots of it. There was a poker game going later and placed third in the first round and second in the second. It was only a five dollar buy-in but it was fun as hell. I came out with ten bucks. There was also a slightly drunken dance-off between Amiee (one of the barkeeps) and Tina's (server) boyfriend; much hilarity (and some skill) ensued.

It's a funny thing, I really like all the people I work with there but I can't find much common ground or interests with most all of them. I get along with them just fine but I grapple with anything to talk about.

I don't know or care much for sports, I don't golf, do photography, I can't trade stories about travelling, I don't drink all that much, I don't dance.

I do geek stuff and they don't. I read comics and sci-fi/fantasy, I play video games and CCGs, I'm a movie geek. Even talking about history and politics is difficult, with a third of the bar being from Ireland. They're all great, I just don't what is or isn't a sensitive topic.

Ah! I didn't mean to sound bummed out, I had fun damnit! I'll try and let the rest sort itself out.
