Work diary

Monday: Turn up at the RBLI, go to the Signs manager office, he pairs me up with this guy Ray who shows me how make a sign, I do two, get one off centre so he doesn't let me do another, spend the rest of the day filing and sanding down the sides of the signs for him, something he could have easily done himself.

Tuesday: Come in the same time and hope they're going to give me something else to do, get told to work with Ray again and my heart sinks. The two guys who work either side of Ray are a lot more helpful, one guy tells me I can file and sand down the sides of the signs for all of them to use, I do more work in the first few hours of the day than I did yesterday. The other guy shows me the correct way to cut around the signs, however I can't do it without the guy looking over my shoulder because I keep getting things wrong and I can't help but remember a teacher at school telling me I can't get my hands to do what my brain is telling them. Sue comes in and I tell her about my Dyspraxia, at the end of the day it's decided that it's not a good idea that I work in a job that involves intricate work with knives, there was talk of me coming in next week with a work buddy to help me get into the job, but that isn't going to happen now, instead we're going to intensely focus on getting me volunteer work.

Wednesday: Back to being a bum.

Thursday: Called Barbra at Hands and she told me next week a whole bunch of volunteer positions are opening up with Medway Council, there should be some Admin work for me somewhere.

Friday: Went straight to HMV in Oxford Street, found a Shinya Tsukamoto film I didn't already have for a fiver. Went to Sister Ray and picked up the Coalesce Led Zeppelin covers album (found out it also has covers of Black Sabbath, Undertow, Boysetsfire, The Get Up Kids (!?!) and one original song as well) as well as some Passage and Shipping News stuff for cheap. Had a look in Virgin 'til I got bored then went up to Camden for something to eat. Had a look round Islington but couldn't find the pub I went to with Mills when we saw Cathedral and Electric Wizard so I had a long look round HMV and Borders. Eventually I txt Mills outside the venue and he just met me there.

Truckfighters: A lot of energy for a Stoner band, and fucking loud too. Liked them a lot, bought a couple of split vinyl's off the singer/bass player later.

Fu Manchu: When they hit stage the crowd went retarded; jumping up and down, moshing, throwing their beer everywhere (when did arseholes start going to Stoner shows and why wasn't I informed). I took a few pictures then went to the toilet to wash the beer out of my hair. Found Mills at the back and had a better time under the air conditioning with fewer people around. I only own three of their albums so I didn't know most of their songs, it was cool that they played Evil Eye as their second song and a bunch of stuff from the new one. Went out to the merch stall with Mills to get the Truckfighters splits and was disappointed that they sold out of the Fu Manchu 45 (and I really wanted that because it had a Void cover on it). Before we went back in we talked about how many drunken pricks were here, just as we were saying that a drunk guy in a Cathedral shirt stops at Mills side and says "I bet you like Down" and proceeds to talk about how Phil Anselmo is a God, how Cathedral are the best band ever and gets into an argument with Mills because he only likes their early stuff before walking away screaming "DON'T GO TALKING ABOUT ME NOW!" We went up to the balcony and watched the band on the screens from the bar. They played Saturn III as their last song and we left before seeing if they were going to do an encore, agreeing that it was an otherwise good show ruined by the people around us.

Went to Victoria, the Japanese place had sold out of tofu and rice but I found that the other Marks & Spencer's stays open for longer so I got a fruit salad and orange and mango juice. We got a train to Chatham, Mills has moved to a different part of Gillingham that isn't near the train station so he got off to get a taxi as well.
