My friends are all gear head and they told me it has to do with the different type of engines for Diesel Engines. A Dodge has a Cummins and a Ford has a Strokin. I think thats it but don't quote me on it.
My girlfriend's family calls those dual rear wheel axles "Birthing hips".
On another note, I see you list Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in your favorite books. What do you think about the upcoming movie? Are you planning on seeing it?
Cool! I hope the Providence club can bring out enough of a crowd to warrant further play. My friend joined up a while ago and they have been practising, fund raising (they made pin-up style calendars) and making costumes for months. The big day is finally upon us. It's funny, she is such a sweet and lovable girl, roller derby is the last thing I pictured her doing. I'll take some pictures.
From the "random coincidences" file, I was just listening to Dr. Ring Ding on the drive home from Boston this morning. I was kind of wondering if many other people listened to him, then I saw your picture. I've never seen him play live, how was that? It seems like it would be a good show. He emailed me once, in response to a post I made on alt.music.ska.
I guess that explains the song "Big Man". I'd love to see him/them play. I have "Dandimite" and "Ram Di Dance" and I really dig them both.
> My girl had a good long talk with Django about New Jersey (they both grew up there). Great guys.
Yeah, a friend of mine from Jersey says he DJs at some club in Northeast Jersey somewhere. I saw Stubborn All Stars play once, (good show) but I never saw Django do anything solo.
>I put up some more RollerGirls pics ... check 'em out.
Cool, I sent some pics to my friend. I also checked out mnrollergirls.com. They have a nice set up. The site linked to the Providence club too, I didn't even know they had a site. Like I said, I'm hoping the Providence club can get enough support to keep going. I have had some interest here, but all from people in other areas of the country. I tried to get the group owners of SG Boston and Providence to post notes about it, but no dice.
Speaking of group owners, I am trying to set it up so we (if you can make it) can meet the guy who runs the Ska group at the Slackers show. As you've probably learned, he plays in Westbound Train, who will be opening at said show. I have seen them play a bunch of times in support of "big" names like Slackers, Pietasters and Hepcat. They put on a great show.
It was a great time. My team didn't win, but the scoring was totally screwy. I heard later that the guy who tallied points is sleeping with the captain of the other team.
The crowd was a decent size and seemed to be pretty into it. They even had the mayor of Providence do a brief intro. We sat right outside the ring and girls kept crashing inot the crowd right next to us.
The halftime show was fun too. First they had some local bike club play a game where they tried to knock each other off of their respective homemade bicycle jalopies. After that the marching band from Brown performed on roller skates.
There were a few technical issues. Most notably the fact that many people walked right in without paying. The rink had virtually no staff and the girls in the club were too busy to pick up additional jobs. We notified some rink crew as well as the announcers, but I don't know that it helped much. It's too bad because they needed all the financial support they could get.
>I sure hope I can make that show. I don't see why not, but you never know, I could get stuck in Milwaukee on the flight out.
We'll have to devise a clever system for meeting up as time draws near. Will you have internet access while in Boston?
>Did you see Hitchhiker's Guide, yet?
No not yet. My girlfriend has Tuesday off so we'll probably catch a matinee then. So far I hear good things.
Yeah I was a little surprised that it was outdoors. The girls all expressed a strong desire to find a place with wooden floors to hold the next bout.
My girlfriend got all hopped up about roller derby and has been planning costumes and team names for a club out here. She's so busy with work that I don't know how she could do it witout some serious assistance, but i think it would go over quite well if it ever got off the ground.
I'll have to get in touch with you closer to the show date with some contact info and what not. Maybe we can get together for dinner before the show and get the guy from the band to come out.
What I will probably do is send you an email on Wednesday with my number. I will be heading to Boston on Thursday. You can give me a call when you get in and have an idea of when you'll be able to get away.
As far as advice on finding a place in Boston, it's been a while since I had to do that. The first thing I would tell you is to avoid doing it for September 1st at all cost. You obviously don't have that concern. I would also tell you to stay away from agents if at all possible. They are bottom of the barrel level scum.
I have been away too long to be able to tell you where the hidden gem neighborhoods are these days. The areas that were well kept secrets when I was in town have all been discovered. Since you'll be at BU, the old standby of Allston is worth a look. Does the school have any apartment location services?
It's too bad the SG Boston group is so exclusive these days, or else you could join and get advice from people who are in the mix. I might have some friends around for the show who are living in Boston so they may have more info than me...
I'm glad you liked the reggae mixes. You obviously know your stuff! I plan to have a lot more in the future.
The truck pic above- I think I've seen that before somewhere. I lived in Jacksonville Florida for a year and you'd see stuff like that all the time. All you can do is laugh. My all time favorite? [TAKE THEIR GAS AND NUKE THEIR ASS]. Amazing
OK, looks like I have it set up to have dinner at the club with the group owner. I hope you can get away to meet us, it should be fun.
As of right now I think I am going to drive straight into town around 3 and just leave my car there and do some shopping or something until dinner time. After I finish typing this I'll email you my phone number so you can contact me when you know what your situation is.
>No kidding. I popped over there to look into it a while back and they have all these rules that basically prevent anyone who is not already a member from joining. *shrug*
Yeah, and the funny thing is, I was a member back when I joined SG the first time and I still can't get in.
