...that - or similar - is what I'm used to hearing when people ask about any trips/vacations I've taken
though, yes, the Nevada-Arizona trip in early '16 & this summer's Denver trip were with others ( and the only with others since I started vacationing in '11
the Vegas trips in '11 and '12
the San Francisco trip in '15
the SD road trip in '16
the "MN Loop" road trip spring this year
... all taken alone, even though I did end up meeting/seeing people I knew on each and every one of the trips ( excepting Denver - but since I was with the ex-wife & daughters, I suppose that counts? )
although when planning each one only the 2nd Vegas trip and the "MN Loop" road trip were ones I planned on seeing people I knew - most of the others was by weird chance encounters :)
"wait, you've never been out of the US?"
unless you count when I lived 5 miles from the Canadian border and only a few miles upwards from there...
which most people don't *smirks*
I only just got my passport March of this year - which gives me just under a decade to actually do some international travelling now
( years back, before and during being married, I was on a no-passport list for some reason - I never delved, figured it was safer not to :) )
and, YES! very much YES, I want to do some international travelling...
obviously costs and language are the biggest factors ( and, no, I really don't want to travel south of the US border, it just doesn't interest me )
I can only afford so much - reliant largely on what I do ( or don't ) get post-taxation season
I only speak english - and even that is questionable, if you gauge it by those whom I talk to (ir)regularly *laughs*
so, aye, language is the biggest barrier, costs secondary...
that and I could only take a week, maybe a week-and-a-half, at a time to travel and experience, so the where each time is limited...
assuming I actually WANT to enjoy what I see and remember it more than a blur *laughs* ( which, yes, I do ;) )
so many places I would love to go and see - so much history and life and culture I've never experienced
there's so much of a world out there I've only "tasted" through friends - those I've met that were here for school/work/vacation as well as those I only know online
different places for different reasons - europe alone there's so much I'd want to see... and I'm not getting any younger *sighs* :(
those I know who've visited ( or live/lived in ) Ireland/UK/Isles, Poland, Scandinavia, [place history-rich european country here] have wonderful stories and experiences
the same, of course, for those visited/live/lived in Australia & New Zealand :)
even parts of asia sound wonderous and inviting - though, as I've been told, language would be a HUGE barrier for me... as well as my eating habits... in the asian world
of course, the BIGGEST question is - assuming I can afford it in '18 - Where Should I Travel (Next Year/'18)?
I haven't gotten an answer from anyone in that regards, except for the religious nuts telling me of "missionary opportunities" to "spread the word of [their god]" in south american and african countries while "increasing their standard of living"
( sorry, but I'm gonna have to continue to go with "NO" in that regards - 1) I wouldn't spread beliefs I don't believe in and 2) it'd be actual work/labour involved in areas without running water and adequate housing to boot... *yeesh* but that's no a "vacation" to me - not to mention I don't consider adding [their god] to anyones lives increases ANYones standard of living )
so - PLEASE, recommendations would be happily accepted regarding international travel :) - VERY happily!
"wait, you've never visited [US state/city] before?"
well, there are a couple I've driven through but never stopped in except to gas-up or rest the eyes en route to somewhere
any many states I've only been to one particular area of ( and of that only a few miles walking area of )
I'm VERY not well-travelled and most places I've been to have been in the past 6yrs
I absolutely loved seeing SD on my road trip as well as seeing parts of my own home state that I hadn't seen until this last road trip :)
there's no question that if you put a worldmap up on the wall 99% of my life would fit into the space of a quarter *sighs*
but oh well...
just as there's so many places I'd like to see for so many different reasons internationally, there are just as many within the US, too
I'd love to visit DC, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Hawai'i, see the ocean ( beyond San Francisco bay :) ), see the mountains ( though I did drive through once and could see from the distance of Denver ), parts of Alaska when it's not so brutally cold ;)
parts of Canada as well, beyond that of the "north of MN near LOW" - though equally falling into the not so brutally cold times of year/locale ;)
again, cost is a barrier BUT - strangely moreso than compared to internationally - ability to get around plays a factor
I like to walk and wander and there are - quite sadly - so many places in the US where walking/wandering just don't work :(
or simply places where each-and-every thing that's worth to see are far enough away that it'd take a full day of walking to GET to the next sight *meh*
not that internationally there aren't some places similarly, but from what I've been told and seen, there's so much more to see in a european city than an american city historically, beautifully, and artistically alone
most likely due to the age of these compared to the age of US cities, I'm sure ( as well as the american need to segregate areas of beauty and tear down old things for new constantly *sighs* - america sucks in that regard
So, yeh - my wanderlust, particuarly when temps get colder ( although that's when I assuredly travel less ), is on the rise once again...
I desire and long so badly to travel...
and I honestly hope that I can afford to do so post-taxation and utilize the weeks of vaca time remaining actually taking a nice solo vacation somewhere ( internationally preferably ) come spring/summer
weekend twittage ::
10/20 : "you should really do something involving [god] tomorrow"
fine, I'll find some religious-pr0n in the morning
* worth the glare, every sec *
10/21 : the rain is bleedin' cold, otherwise temps are decent and the clouded sky actually brings out the difference in the shading of the trees...
10/21 II : nice to see that the laundry room no longer looks nor smells like the (temporary) abattoir - kinda wonder who cleaned it up after all :(
10/21 III : took advantage of the break in the rain to pick up what I desired from corner store - last they had in stock ( hopefully they'll restock )
10/21 IV : how does one lose the only long-sleeve white shirt one owns... it's not as if I have that many white clothes in the first place *ponders*
