Hey guys,
So this week I found a super amazing app for my iPad that I thought I'd share with you! It's called ComicFlow. Very basically what you do with it is download your favourite comics through torrents (I use Piratebay even though you're apparently not meant to because of the piracy laws and stuff but oh well!) and then upload it to your iPad through their server! It is a free app, however, I (and by me I mean my partner) paid the $5 to have an unlimited server as the free one does limit you to about twenty comics I'm pretty sure. But definitely worth the $5!
To be honest I never read many comic books, I've always been more of a gamer in that sense, the main thing that really held me back was access to them (which is why this app is so great!). Before I got ComicFlow, I'd really only read a couple of random Batman and Superman issues and Alan Moore's The Watchmen and V for Vendetta. It's been a lot of fun and I've already lost many, many hours to reading. So what have I been reading?
Catwoman - The New 52
First up I started reading the new 52 run of Catwoman. So far I am love love loving it. Selina's humour is right up my alley. Straight away a big fan and right away diving straight into her world and her relationship with Batman in the first issue. Also on a side note one of my favourite things about this comic just the way the frames are set up..
I've read through all the new 52 of Catwoman, currently in the process now of getting some of the older issues and seeing where it all started.
Sex Criminals - Volume One; One Weird Trick
Okay so Sex Criminals. Lordy lordy this is a good one @lexiacon has been telling me about this one for ages but I haven't gotten around to it till now. Very long story short, two people find out when they have sex time stops. And fuck it is so well done. Starting off with Suzie narrating over her younger self, when she first discovered what she could do, it grabs and hold your attention very easily. Secondly to help that is the incredible artwork...
The approach to sex throughout the comic is great, very casual but never grotesque. The artwork is what stops making this idea for a comic creepy, to be honest. I stops it from being seen as somewhat pornographic. When I read through it although its revolves around sex its not about sex. A great read, I've currently just finished reading the first volume and excited to get onto the next!
The Killing Joke
Now I am a HUGE Alan Moore fan. I absolutely loved and adored The Watchmen and V for Vendetta, so I've been wanting to get onto this for a while. And well no surprise that I loved Killing Joke too! Now there are many origin stories however, Moore's version is the most recognised. In my opinion Moore's writing style for this story was perfect. There are two timelines running parallel to each other. The first one being how the Joker what he is and the second showing how twisted it made him. Showing the incredible chasm between the too.
Of course as well the artwork is another incredible feature of this comic (of course).
Now I do understand that this app may upset some people with the fact that money isn't going to the writers and artist and to be straight up it does upset me too. However, to be completely honest I am beyond super epic broke right now. So... Unfortunately yes I have restored to this. I would much rather have my own physical copies of these comics TRUST ME. I am a collector. However, cash rules everything around me...
Soooooooo anyway that's what I've been up too, I hope some of you get some use out of ComicFlow like me!
Thanks @missy @lyxzen @rambo @bloghomework for this topic <3
