ohhh the pain of gin is so rarely worth it ..better to submit to vodka or rum.
i'm a bit belated on commenting on your kundera post, but indeed you've captured his spirit. I liked the book of laughter and forgetting ...I related to karl for a long time. I need to read it again to see who strikes me now. He showed me that there is joy to be found in dysfunction; that life's disappointments are an exact testament to the magic of experiencing life itself ...in sorrow there is the joy of experience.
I can't say I've been in your exact situation you describe above (interesting though it is) but I always wonder if I met my myself, would I recognize me? Since we are so acustomed to seeing ourselves in the mirror and not being ourselves, would our outward mannerisms, altered sound of our voice (what we hear is different due to our voice being mostly transmitted through our bones to our ears) and subtle symmetric facial flaws make immediate recognition difficult or even impossible.

It's whiskey and vermouth that are evil to me... :-)
Hope you are feeling much better by now.
