So by now most of you know that I got a call from Sikes Hall just a few weeks ago to tell me that I cannot, in fact, graduate next week as planned. Turns out when my advisor was telling me for the past year, "You need this class and this class and this class, and then you can graduate in December," what she actually meant was, "You need these classes to complete your requirements for the Sociology major." Now, although I have taken all of my major requirements, I am nine elective hours short of a degree. The idea of taking classes another semester was completely devastating to me, but now that no other alternative has been discovered, I am resigned to my fate.

For the first time, it occurs to me that this undesirable turn of events might actually be fortunate. My woeful lack of personal management this semester has resulted in disgusting academic performance in two of my classes, largely because I FORGOT about several important assignments, turned others in very late, and then stunningly FORGOT one major test. Although I haven't done the math, I believe I am in danger of failing these two classes-- a first in my usually excellent academic career.

Repeating either of these classes would be a huge sack of suck, because neither class is fun, both require a lot of work, and I already feel like I have a good grasp on the material in each, even though I don't have the grades to back it up. But... if I do fail, at least everyone in my family already knows that I have to stay another semester because of something that wasn't my fault, and no matter what happens, I will be saved the embarrassment of divulging the truth about my underachievement.

I want orange juice.
