Looks I'm flying into good ol' Tryon, NC for christmas to see my parents. Tryon is a little town in the appalachian mountains with a population of 1,400 (15,000 on the weekend of the barbeque festival). It's about as much fun as it sounds.
I could have gotten a cheaper ticket than I did, but I didn't want to stay for more than a few days if I could possibly help it...
There's something REALLY DEPRESSING about watching the Conan O'Brian central time countdown by yourself in your parents' basement. They moved to Tryon from Philly the year I went to college, so I don't know anyone there.

Actually I just checked the dates on that... this year I'll be back in Boulder for new year's. *whew*
Still, I'm annoyed that my brother and sister won't be in NC for christmas.
"We waited too long to get tickets."
"They're just too expensive."
Bullshit guys, bullshit. I'm the poorest member of my family and I got my tix THIS MORNING. Way to get your little brother's back in the face of extended parent time. Assholes.

You're probably right about a Hollywood adaptation of Snowcrash. I'd like to see someone who really loved the book do it up right; probably someone who came from an indie background, but got some studio money for the project without any of the studio baggage. Granted, very unlikely. But it happened with Mr. Jackson and his hobbit movie.
