I ate at Bread and Ink Cafe with the PDX and had a good time. I got the biscuits and gravy with sunny-side up eggs. The gravy had a very nice richness to it, and the biscuits weren't heavy or overly thick. Plus, it is enjoyable to share a meal with a pleasant group of people.
A little while later, I ate at Navarre, which was a very nice meal. The wine list has a surprising number of glasses available, and the restaurant also does 1/3 or 2/3 of a bottle. Yet, I decided to try 2 different whites because I was wanting some variety. The food was very nicely prepared, and I was able to order as my meal progressed because Navarre serves the food family style, the food comes out when it is ready. I began my meal with a duck pate, which was nicely prepared and still moist. However, the duck skin that was still present could have been rendered more because it was very chewy. For my next course, I had a fennel and carrot salad that had a very mild vinaigrette, which was full of flavor. My entree was trout in cream sauce with bacon, and I ordered a side of mushrooms. The trout was wonderfully prepared, and the richness of the sauce went very well with the bacon's smokiness. Two of the trout filets were not completely trimmed of fins, but it did not distract from the dish.
