But, you know what, it's cool. Because if I don't...

So, my band performed last night at Coffee Depot for open mic night. It was a weird experience, just like the Museum one. I'm not used to performing while people are walking around and talking. I felt like I was screaming because I had to sing over conversations. But, I hope that doing mic night will help get my band's name out there. It looks...

So..it's official...my sister is becoming a nun. She leaves for Dover, Delaware in the end of September. She told me and the rest of my siblings and my husband the news yesterday. I cried for hours. I mean, I'm cool with it just as long as she really wants to do this. But, what bothered me is that told me and my siblings that she...

Wow, pretty abig step on your sisters part. How old is she? Can she leave if she changes her mind? Its such a huge step.

Hope your dad will be okay. My mum's between homes too, has been for about a year now and is too proud to stay with anyone, it makes me worry so much. But she'll comean visit and I just make excuses for her to stay longer.
threepattypixie:
She's 19 years old...nuts right! From what I understand she has 6 months to decide. But talking to her yesterday, she sounded so sure. I just hope this is what she really wants.

As for my dad, I worry for him the most. At least for my sister, if she decides not to be a nun, she'll be writing a new chapter in her life. But my dad, I don't what gonna happen. And I can't seem to stop crying. frown

I'm really bad about blogging but I am determined to keep up with it now. I'm so bad at blogging, I didn't even know what it was. I asked my husband and my friend and they looked at me like I was from another planet.

Anyway, my band and I had our first gig today! It was kind of weird but very successful. It was...

I'm actually more interested in traditional composition, mostly for scoring for film and interactive media. I started out as a guitarist in punk and rock bands, but about 3 years ago I got serious and decided to really focus on music, so I'm a bit behind the curve. Unfortunately, the music program up here in Alaska doesn't support composition as a major, so I have to do it on my own as an independent study program. It's sort of nice because I can do pretty much whatever I want, the downside is I have no one to really help guide me or give me advice on composition so I sort of feel like I'm treading water if you know what I mean.

Would you have any advice as to books that have helped you out in the past, or other things that I might look into to help myself become a better composer? Also, what other programs did you look into before deciding on UCR?
threepattypixie:
An interest in film and interactive media is perfect! My advisor specializes in film and video game theory while the other faculty composer's interest is in interactive media. They will push you out of the boundaries of traditional composition though.

I'm so sorry it took so long for me to respond. I have been busy teaching a workshop to highschool. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, I just to be sure that you know I didn't forget about you. My students concert is Friday, so I'll be able to respond more effectively over the weekend.
