I wish I knew.

I pretty much suck at it, but the one thing bad for me I did quit easy was smoking, and that's only because I was not addicted to the nicotine. I have had fritos/dip and a beer for dinner before.
weso:
As soon as you find out about this, would you share the results? I could use a little less vice as well.
acet:
The initial decision to live healthier requires will power, but seeing the end results are what keeps you going until eventually it becomes second nature.

For example, about 1.5 years ago I started properly hydrating myself. The more water I drank, the less of everything else I drank. I eventually gave up soda and other sugary drinks entirely. Over time my face cleared up immensely and I felt better overall. Now if I take a sip of soda it tastes awful, and if I eat anything super sugary it makes me sick.

Your body reconditions itself, which is why vegans/vegetarians get sick eating the meat you and I love.

Nope ARRR!!! best advice I can give is "just do it" not the Nike shoe biggrin haha but in life and yes there are still bad times in life as that's life but if you don't over think it you'll naturally make room to enjoy it.Who say's you have to all together stop drinking and eating Cheetos any ways?!?You can still do those things from time to time just that if you are out to get more healthy for when you get old some day I'd advise having less of that in your daily routine and try some thing new that is healthy and brainwash your self to thinking you enjoy it more than the unhealthy stuff such as instead of thinking "this is what I have to eat and drink to be healthy" try thinking "this is a key to a better future and I deserve to be as awesome as I can be".I hope I was of some help.

+1 on the fuck jogging lol

I think it is that most people believe that they have to do all of these things now a days to be healthy. Do this, do that, drink this, eat that. Blah blah blah. You know the old saying... moderation in moderation. wink

Same way here. Plus I'm already a chronic lethargic by nature. Though I really need to do my crunches like I was until March now our ac is fixed despite getting no result whatsoever. I refuse to walk anywhere when it's not hot under 3 miles (I won't take a car such small distances save for the Summer when it's fatal) And I need to try to switch to nicotine gum AGAIN. Good luck to you smile I think we both could use a muse to push us forward sometimes.

Also Beer and Cheetos. Wow.... my metabolism and organs can handle it..... but talk about world war three for the tummy :x

Hahahha.

I don't think it was willpower or concern for my health that made me change a lot of things about my life in the past few years, I just slowly found that all the things I enjoy most and make me feel best are those things which are also quite healthy. I never feel better when I've done something like climbed a mountain or done a couple of hours of yoga and eaten beautiful fresh food all week. Maybe I'm just a bit boring though :-) Sometimes you do need to have crisps and beer for dinner though.
siv:
what annalee said...i started to get really addicted to not being hungover at work. tongue it was like i had forgotten i could even feel good.
unununium:
The honest answer for me is that my current healthy lifestyle was initially motivated by both fear and vanity - fear, as when I was around 26 or so I had quite a cancer scare - this coincided with an increasingly flabby body, lack of motivation, crappy skin, increasing depression, etc. I quit my pack a day smoking habit, started eating regular, healthy meals , and gave up other much more unhealthy habits I won't name here, in addition to regularly exercising.

I think one of the most difficult aspects to confront when changing to a more healthy lifestyle isn't the cravings (though those are intense!), but the fact that our identity is often bound up with our lifestyle choices.

In the end though the rewards outweigh the detriments!
deanrand:
I'm partial to beer & Fritos for lunch..........
liu:
sometimes i love to take some beer on breakfast time dosnt exist
happiness is more important

I am a weirdo..I love exercise, diet..blah blah
most people that know me link it to my ocd

It is all self-discipline.

However, as the Tyler Durden says, "Self-improvement is just masturbation."

Some people like to masturbate more than others.

I knew that I wanted to quit smoking about 6 months ago but I also knew that I wasn't up to the challenge yet. So I started doing yoga 2-3 times a week to help me feel good physically and psychologically but also to help me breath. I heard from a few friends that focusing on your breath was huge when you have the desire to smoke. So here I am 6-ish months later having not smoked in over a week and now I'm addicted to yoga. Ultimately it was on going encouragement and support that has helped me to get this far. I don't think I could ever do the died thing. Not that I need to worry about weight but like if I ever have high cholesterol or something... i don't know.

You are so not your vice. So you want to exercise more, or somethin? I'd be down to jump in if it's in my powers. smile
ardour:
I'm the same way, but I do manage limited exercise because it actually makes me feel good afterwords. But things like getting an education, or eating less red meat? Not so easy! I don't know what I'd enjoy if not for my vice...
trocc:
well i'm interested in the story, but let's work on the assumption that we'll manage to meet up this week/end, and i'll save you some typing. for now. wink

so next question would be when you're here and when you're free... i know you're out here for Pitchfork which could gobble up most of your weekend, but are you in town for longer? maybe you're not doing all 3 days? i'm seeing a great show Saturday night if you're not doing PF and are looking for some good riff-age.

it'd be awesome to meet up at Kuma's - as long as you understand up front that it will likely be very packed and may take an hour or more to get a seat. unless we get good bar karma. smile

still a great place to drink some beers and hang out while we wait, though - my favorite place in the city for sure, and if you like a good burger, you really really shouldn't miss it. so let me know what's what and we can see what we can sort out...
trocc:
works for me. for what it's worth, the wife and i are planning on being there this Thursday night already - but we can see what shakes out. don't make it something that adds to any stress for yourself!

i'd definitely stop by if i was going to be @ Pitchfork at all, but i won't be this year. i met Tuffy briefly a few years back when he was here for... i think it was Intonation Fest.
magni:
I remember seeing you at the Homestead once, you and adam_vincent. I don't remember what that event was all about.

But yeah, Id say we haven't really met yet.
pamurf65:
i totally agree, and if you look at my profile you will see.do what you want, cause it is your life just dont step on anyone else's toes unless you are ready to deal with the repercussions.
cosi:
I saw! I loved your comment, it made me giggle! I'm Pacifica with my sister Thursday - Sunday. We are going to try and come up the the city for a night out, will you be around? Anything fun going on?
quinne:
i wouldn't have any fun if not for my vices.
opticnerve:
Since you're still on here, you can surmise that it's not you.
opticnerve:
A certain former participant in the nude shenanigans on this site advocated strongly that I feign disinterest towards a certain girl, i.e. play hard to get. It backfired and she ended up dating someone else.
