I've accomplished not a lot in my life so far. I presume that is where this very minor life crisis is coming from. I have been working in retail for almost five years. Every day I have to find the motivation to get up for work. I don't think that should be the type of place that someone should spend so much time at. Though, I have accomplished something right now that I would like to share with all of you. One at a time might be the plan. This one is called Mt. Si.

Mt Si. is a 4,000 feet climb in four miles. It took me a lot longer than most hikers but I still got to the top. Before when I was much heavier I could not climb more than a mile and a half. This year I accomplished this and another hike that is the toughest in Washington. Photo dump time.
(Can't fix the photos or just cant figure it out.)

It was a very important accomplishment for me to do this hike. It was a two months after my grandfather died and two months after my girlfriend broke up with me. I needed this and I found a passion in me I didn't know I had. It was the strength of solidarity. The power in being alone and accomplishing much. I put music on, I strapped my boots and I just kept walking. I stopped every now and then but I kept going. I didn't turn back and continued on. I felt strong, I felt good and for the first time in a long time I felt happy. When I got to the top and saw what I had accomplished I was taken aback. Also, my mix playing in shuffle this song came on as soon as I broke the tree line to look down at the valley.

Flightless Bird American Mouth - Iron and Wine

That feeling was truly transcendent, awakening and near as nirvana as I could imagine. I just wanted to share that with anyone willing to hear. It was an important moment in my life.

I feel your life crisis... I worked in retail. In the same store for seven years. It was eating me alive, and when I left it and startersd to adventure , my whole life turned around. I love seeing or hearing about other people's adventures. It's remarkable how something so seemingly small, like a hike, can affect someone's life so much. I see it's done wonders for you.
In terms of me, I get outdoors whenever I get. Evenings, weekends... but during the summer I try to live in my tent. I'm a tree planter in Canada; I spend two and a half months out in the wilderness. It is a remarkable experience and is preparing me to hike the pacific coast trail from Mexico to Vancouver.

Keep adventuring.

What does being a tree planter entail? Basically this: Wake up at 5am and convince your sore body out of your sleeping bag. Crawl out of your tent. Do some yoga. 6am, breakfast buffet, and make lunch. 7am, load a few thousand (at least 18000) trees into the truck with your crew. All six of you load into the truck. Drive through beautiful logging roads and see tons of wildlife. 8-9am. Arrive at cut block, fill bags, grab shovel, go to work digging holes and putting trees in nice and straight. Do again. and again. and about three thousand more times until 6pm. Clean up boxes, get in truck, sleep. Get to camp. Shower. Eat, eat, eat, and eat some more. Yoga. 9pm. sleep. smile

Yep, that's basically it. Plus days off, which basically just means a day in the laundromat, library and leisure center.

I LOVE that idea of hiking across a stretch of Europe. It's definitely on my list. I want to accomplish a coast to coast Canada trip first before doing anything in Europe.
