levar burton, who plays geordi la forge in star trek: the next generation, starred in roots as a slave (named kunta kinte) given, and forced to accept, the slave name "toby".

mrcrisp:
well, not when they misuse "you're". it's one of my pet peeves, and the reason i blew my chance to go to the national spelling bee finals when i was a kid. in fact, i still have horrible flashbacks every time i see that grammatical error. the horror. the horror.
toothpickmoe:
You're going to get all the mileage you can out of that, aren't you?

Not that I find that a bad idea, mind you...

I wonder how different that version of NL will be.
toothpickmoe:
Interesting. I've read so much on him and his process. It would be pretty cool to get more of an intimate view of how he worked. I'll look into that.
toothpickmoe:
Queer isn't bad if you're not squeamish about gay sexuality. Soft Machine is iconic. Nova Express has it's moments.

I like some of his non-fiction/letters stuff too. Bear in mind this is all Burroughs, so "good" is relative to his style.

ill admit it, I've read naked lunch (own that same copy) and it went completely over my head

Did an assignment for them last year where I staked out a home in CT where Acorn supposedly registered a little kid to vote. Pretty funny.
toothpickmoe:
Interesting point. And duly noted.

Well, first off, thank you for asking. That's very...well surprising really. The old profile picture will probably come back, as it's my "true" identity here. And, no, I haven't been in anything else since then. At the time that was shot (shit, a million years ago at this point) I was barely interested in doing that sort of work. I helped out a friend, and it became what it is.

I'm happy to hear that random folks I meet on the internet are interested in what happened there. If you really are interested, Google Peter Alton, the writer/director of that short film, and you'll see the many projects he's been involved in since Les Supe (as it's been called).

Looking for work, are you? wink
