Our generation has no great war and no depression
our war is spiritual and our depression is our lives

Hey! How's your new life in Detroit going? I just moved away from Michigan after spending the first 21 years of my life there, and I miss the city like you would NOT believe.
We have similar music tastes, so I highly recommend you spend some time at the Magic Stick. It's my favorite show venue, period, and I spent many nights there.
Good luck with everything, and let me know if you need solid, Midwestern recommendations for something to do...
If you're learning digital, that's cool. It doesn't bind you to a life of ramen noodles. But if you want to learn how to make movies, start working on them.
A standard 16mm or 35 mm film set operates in a much different fashion than a typical DV film set. THe crew is larger, there is usually much more organization and discipline and the pay scale is significantly higher. Generally.
You don't need film school to get on one of these sets. You just need to be eager, attentive and ready for some long hours. Check out www.mandy.com or your local film office and see when the next set is coming to town.
