Sweden. Swedish history. Despite my MA being in Russian History, and my BA in Victorian/Edwardian British History, I have always been fascinated with the history of Sweden. Not many people know that Sweden was once a huge diplomatic and military powerhouse in Europe holding dominion and influence over vast swaths of Europe. I find the Swedish ability to have done this verging on the supernatural given that they have always been such a small country in terms of population, but still managed to hold sway over a vastly larger territory. I also find Sweden's transition from world powerhouse to the modern Sweden equally fascinating as they seemed to have done it without the growing pains other former empire builders suffered from.
All that is a long introduction to the fact that with my busted arm I can no longer paint. However, I can mount, base and flock my miniatures! I have a large number if 6mm figures painted, they just need to be mounted, so while with a bum wing, I figured I would catch up! This is a set of Swedish heavy cavalry (left) and Swedish dragoons on the right, representing standard Swedish squadrons of the time. They are to be used with the Swedish wargame "G P" for large scale reenactment of The Great Northern War (1700-1721), which was the high watermark of Sweden's Continental power. I am thinking however of outsourcing the painting, as 6mm figure can make you go blind....
