Hey. Thanks for the advice. I also use the online translator, but I use this one. I will check the other one out too because the one I use isn't always accurate. I guess I can see the resemblance to Mr. Robinson....

Dude, I haven't the foggiest idea why your phone cam is spazing out, but I have noticed the same issue with some other people's pic folders. It's possible that the SG server and the phone cam you have may have some bugs between the two. confused
godsmoker:
That's a good question. I would have to go with Bender from Futurama, because he's the perfect asshole! biggrin The other guy was a good tough-guy in The Breakfast Club, though. I dig your point of view.
godsmoker:
Also....

Happy International Talk like a Pirate Day! ARRR!!!
sixblueten:
Nicely done. Like I said, either a random item off my desk, or a photo of it. . . your call. . . if the former, then I'll need a mailing address for the paperclip, or whatever. If the latter, I'll post the pic in your journal. Heh. What a prize!

.Net no - however Mono - the Open-source version of .NET for UNIX distributions YES - in-fact their are already a small number of test application using C# for on Mac OS X from Mono with full speed native GUI's. Testing is the word to note however-

Here is the Mono Home Page

See Here for discussion of the future of .NET and Mono on the Mac - Since .NET was designed to kill Java, and to stop cross platform development by MS - it is believed the MS will simple sue the whole mono project into the ground if it ever becomes popular.

Here is a pict of a basic up written in C# on Windows using .Net then recompiled under Mono for Mac OS X

Here is a link for the
Mono Version for Mac OS X

VB net is MS only however their is an equivalent of RealBasic on the Mac and Linux - RealBasic is not as popular on the Mac as OS X - VB gains its power from drawing on Windows DLL's these DLL,s not not exist outside of Windows - Their is an open source project I heard that was aiming to port VB to UNIX/Linux/Darwin/Mac however were it is up to is unknown.

On UNIX people prefer C, C++, Java, Objective-C, -- Objective-C is the big one on the Mac due to the Cocoa Library which is called GNUStep under Linux.

I am not smart - I know only the basics - wait till you play with the hard core UNIX boys.

To answer your question

also, they recommended i but a networked laptop, but which card would you say is better, 11b or 11g?

Every Mac laptop comes with wireless card Apple has had them as standard for like 3 plus years - Every powerbook comes with 11g with backward support for the slower speeds - Apple calls it Airport - but that is just consumer marketing - in-fact Apple drove the 11g standard which I think is the fastest out their at the moment.

You must remember that what you consider nice extras in the PC world is consider basic in the Mac world - Ethernet - Modem - Fireless 11g, bluetooth, DVD burner, these are all standards in the PowerBooks -

You really need to look at the specs of the PowerBook and do a side by side comparison - You will not get better -

Look at the feature / components (Note - Make and Quality) / weight (For its size no PC laptop will compare) / size / thickness (For a 1 inch thick body wrapped in hardened Aluminum not plastic case with metal frame and with a DVD drive and all the plugs you would need no PC even comes remotely close) / and finally preloaded software (look up iTools - iPhoto -iDVD -iMovie -GarageBand - on the net that is worth like $500 easy Apple give it for free and its not some crap crippled apps their solid in every way and get rave reviews).

Really the only Application you could buy for the Mac is MS Office - but their is half a dozen free or cheaper options on the Mac with good support. - OpenOffice - Also TextEdit on the Mac which is like notePad on Windows opens and saves Word files - so I do not even have a word processor on my machine - no need.

Plus their are many shareware apps that rock which just have no windows equal - Then their is the one thing you will not need to buy on Mac OS X - anti-Virus - the Mac has Zero - Nil Dada - and for good reasons not just market share. Its called UNIX smile

Also remember as a student Apple will give you three years full warranty - no one matches that.

Apple will never offload tech support to India - bad idea - Apple is the total product from being to end - not just until they have your money - This is a family after all and we take care of our family.

Their are one millions little things that i can tell you but that will spoil the surprises that are install for you.

The guys in the stores are consumer focused - they are not developers - so most of the time their full of soft shit -

Find out as much as you can about this program and then get back to the board - Also - remember worst comes to worst - you can run Windows on a Mac using VirtualPC its does everything you need but play games but if you really really need a PC but do not want to bother with one VirtualPC will get you past in a pinch or you could just buy a cheap PC shit box for like $200 +/- or something - you will never use it however - you will have a mac.

Do you have a friend who mac you play with for a day - or just camp out in the store - thats what I used to do - sit and play and download and program and develop in the store -

Are you going to an Apple store or just an Apple reseller?
thecookiemonster:
Did you know they will NOT hire me in their stores - I am to technical and will scare little kids with their mums.

Shame - I would love a job at Apple

p.s. Apple babes are so much hotter then P.C girls - I know Aspen and I think Missy are both mac girls. love

Make sure it is a modern mac that is up to date not some stone age Apple 2 - from the 1970's -

Also Mac OS X - and everything before it are totally different Beast anything before OS X - was crap well a bit like Windows 95 if you know what i mean.
dem_z:
OMFG your journal comments are like totally geektastic. I used to hate macs, but I quite like them now. If I ever got enough money to buy a machine I'd buy a mac. smile

And ^^^that guy^^ is possibly right. Erin is a mac user. love smile
dem_z:
I've got a few pc's, but you know how technology marches on and you end up wanting a new machine? The one's I've got should last me a few more years. I don't play games, and that seems to be the real technology hog. People buy stupidly powerful machines for games. I just to a bit of photoshopping and wordprocessing and internetting. Some hobbyist web design. So, the only reason I need windows is for Total Annihilation, which could run on *points at old machine in the corner* that box quite happily. I keep meaning to intall some linux or other. *ponders.* smile

That's right, it's a kaleidoscope. . .one of several that adorn my desk. . .better than a paperclip, no?

brent_is_my_dad that guy is a fucking idiot he is full of shit - he may be your lecturer but he stinks of MS smugness -

"So the answer is basically that a Mac will be fine for everything except
programming, unless you use cross-platform languages like Java, or languages where there are compilers for all platforms (like C)."

What other languages are their - ohh yes the REAL languages those made by Microsoft - a classic closed in MS view of the world

Every major Application in todays world are written in C, C++, and Java, those are the facts - yes VB has its place but its in the minority,

Also a good comp sci course will never teach you a language it will teach you to program. Huge difference.

Plain shit - ask any one who has actually developed on the Mac - what this dumb as claims and they will just laugh -

I bet you money that guy has not ever touched or used a Mac or a UNIX/LINUX/DARWIN BOX for more then a single second of his MS loving asses life.

He goes on to say that :
"The CS course doesn't have have Windows dependent stuff - which is why our students can get away with a Mac :-/"" - like using Non MS is somehow something you have to get away with like some naughty disobedient boy.

And he contradicts himself stating previously that you cannot program on a Mac (I.E. the number one UNIX distribution in the world) however you do not need to use Windows because its not focused on Windows development.

So what can you program on? Pen and paper!!!!!

Now I am just pissed -
thecookiemonster:
think about it
thecookiemonster:
"going to an apple re-seller. you think paying a visit to an apple store will be better?"

if you can yes - you get to know some fully clued in people great place to meet like minded folk and can talk to the Apple genius and hook up with some developer networks.

He go to www.macnn.com - and the developer forum ask your question their lots of unix / linux / mac and windows developers their always keen foe their two cents.

Also just search for stuff

I go to the same university as my ex as well, except we moved here together and then I realized he was an ass. Oops.

For some reason, in my narrow American mind, I can't imagine London having any wild life. I just picture charming roads and cafes and quaint pubs. Can you tell I've never been? tongue

Pearls - are a complex topic - do you belong to the body piercing group - their are 5 pages of thoughts in the subject - basically pearls are when you take pearls and implant them in the shaft of the penis - creating a permeant bump add enough inn and you have a pattern - it makes woman melt - also can make your dick up to an inch thicker - but I did it to make girl beg for mercy - it sounds-strange but very old-practice see my picts on pearls to get an idea - I have three already and I hope to get 15 more.
