In this time of war in Israel, and with terror plots being uncovered in London, Canada, the US, and elsewhere it would serve us well to remember what the WOT is all about. It is not about Islamofascists (for they are pawns) is it not about Zionism (for we too are pawns) or the Great Satan (for they are hoist on their own petard). It is about resources. Energy resources. Global Warming. Sustainability. Survival. How to maintain a multi-trillion dollar economy in the face of a changing world that can't withstand the damage of globalist greed.

I first posted on it in my peak-oil blog http://inoilwetrust.blogspot.com/ on August 2005. An article written by Niall Fergusen, argues that Global Warming should be top of the agenda of the G8. But on the day of the London bombings the last thing on the G8's mind was Global Warming. It was the WOT. Global Terror.

And this year when the G8 met again, Iran's drive for nuclear weapons / power (all energy-related issues especially as the world's number two supplier of crude has "peaked"), the last thing on their mind was dealing with the threat at hand. Once again the WOT was top of the list thanks to Iran's proxy, Hizblabla, attacking Israel and embroiling us all in another - terror-focused war.

I'm not saying that I will suddenly start bIogging on how I understand Islamic terrorists and want to hug them all, because I don't. If I was to wake up one day to hear they'd gone on extended vacation to the moon I'd go back to sleep with a smile on my face. And my dreams would be sweet once more.

I don't think this is going to go away any time soon. This war was only just begun. But I do believe it's important to keep things in perspective. If only because we all want our children to live in an environment that is clean, safe and abundant in resources for all, and not in some Mad Max apocalyptic vision as propagated by the West and Al Queda.

Thanks for the insightful and informational blog. It's good to read some levelheaded talk about current events...too often it seems that such things devolve into name-calling and arguing.

On a global scale it's easy for me to comment. Living in Israel though, it's somewhat different. Yesterday at my girlfreind's parents for lunch and her dad - a big, old, tough Iraqi - started to cry when he thought about all the young Israeli soldiers who have been killed recently.

This is my first war (in Israel) and it's hard not to get dragged into one camp or the other.
