i lived in austin for a couple years, and when you go just outside of the little oasis, it gets all crazy like you just described!! southeast texas is some scary backwards ass shit!!

you're telling me... north texas isn't really much better. I grew up about an hour west of dallas. although, in retrospect, compared to here, that would be a cradle of civilization.

agreed, austin is good. I've been down there a few times to visit friends. one of them lived on 4th street, so it was about a 5 minute walk from his apartment to 6th street. mmm, bratwurst to put a layer of grease on top of an alcohol-filled stomach.

i cant remember the name of the hellish pizza place on 6th street that we used to visit after drinking @ emo's or bates motel...it was a little window that you ordered at, and man it was all red and HOT in that tiny space....

tim frequented maggie mae's, so we usually started off there. there was a whole cheers sort of "NORM!" thing when he walked in. he was such a good customer that he had a standing discount for $2 pints of guiness.
