Awww... That's a beautiful pup! Pets are definitely family. My little pup has helped me through times when I was at my worst. When I felt everyone that I love was judging me she loved me unconditionally, curled on my lap while I wrote and just kept me sane. It's absolutely devastating to lose family. My love goes out to you and your family.

While it's not really possible to say, objectively, that one sort of loss is "worse" or "harder" than another, losing a non-human family member is, to me at least, in many ways, more intense and gut wrenching than most anything else.  Maybe it's because our bond with them is non-verbal, and thus avoids the intellect and all its complications.  Maybe it's because they are like children to us, pretty much completely reliant on us.  Maybe it's because our bond with them is so physical, so full of touch and contact.  Maybe it's because animals--even cats--our so without reservation and holding back with the ones they love. Or maybe it's because for so long, in our Western culture, the status of animals' souls was questioned and questionable, so that for some people, deep down, there is this vague metaphysical worry on top of everything else they're going through.  (Personally I feel that animals are MORE likely to have "souls" than humans!  But, I also feel that there is no doubt that all life is "ensouled".)  Anyway . . . point is that for whatever reasons the death of a beloved animal really cuts deep and long.  So sorry to hear about Haley.

I'm really sorry for your pet... unfortunately I know very well how sad it can be to lose such a great life companion.
