Over the weekend we went to Lake Erie. I reserved us spots on the Flagship Niagara for a day sail as a birthday present for SailorHarry 
he was pretty excited when he asked if he could help haul some rope and set some sails and the crew said that he could.
there was a chance of rain but it turned out to be a beautiful day
that's alotta rope, eh?
it's a little known story of how this ship, with 80% casualties, won the battle that was the turning point of the War of 1812... if they had lost, the British and the Indians would have kept control of Detroit....
Afterwards the ship was left to sink into the mud and murkiness of Misery Bay on the banks of Lake Erie because the gov't didn't have the funds to put her back together again.
the ship we were on is actually a replica of the original, built the same way, and using some of the original materials that could be salvaged.
