So, who wants to give me some job advice?

Here's the deal. I'm graduating from a medical assisting (MA) program next month. I took my RMA certification test two weeks ago, and I think I passed. Right now, I'm working in a doctor's office as my externship, and I love it. But ever since I started school in January of '04, I wanted to be an MA instructor.

I have excellent grades, and reccomendations from 3 of my former instructors. One of them suggested that I email the head of the Allied Health department at my school and find out what the requirements are-- sometimes they'll hire someone with limited field experience as long as that person continue to work part time in a doctor's office or hospital setting (which is my ideal situation). Also, my last job before having Emily was as a vocational instructor for the mentally handicapped.

So I emailed him, not mentioning my prior experience, and he wrote back this big flowery thing about how the company doesn't have a policy per se, but as a hiring manager he looks for experience that I don't have. Pretty much saying another campus might hire you, but you don't have what I'm looking for. He wished me luck and did the email equivalent of patting my head and sending me on my merry way.

Now comes my issues. Another campus is hiring MA instructors, one that is close to the new apartment. Do I send my resume, hoping that their Allied Health director is more open-minded? The website lists requirements as "minimum CMA or RMA; 3-5 years experience preferred." Should I scrap the idea of working for this particular company until I have more experience, and look at other schools?

Gah, I need help. I'll show you my boobs if you can give good advice. wink
