Dreads are nothing if not a commitment. You're right in that you're going to have to wait another six months before you can really make a decision about them. Just keep reminding yourself that it's a process. Now, if you do have some stray hairs you don't like, isn't there some way of working them into the more cohesive locks? Is that just a matter of time as well?
Give it time your dreds will come in fine. Maybe use a little wax. Like you said it just takes time. My sister and her kids have locks. I admire your patience I personally don't have the patience to grow dreds
