Ive long thought the question of best Zombie weapon was both too broad and too variable to reach a singular conclusion. For every defense scenario, a new set of factors will inevitably dictate the ideal tools to get the job done. But I recently decided I needed to take a stand on the issue, and started with a simple process of elimination.

* FIREARMS: Unless youre living inside an ammunition factory or video game the chances of running out of bullets to keep your firearm functioning is too great. Over the long term its not a solid option in my book.

* OTHER RANGED WEAPONS: A spear, throwing ax, battle Frisbee, or boomerang aint gonna cut it for obvious reasons. All the same essential problems as firearms, and not as productive when firing on all cylinders.

* EDGED WEAPONS: Swords, machetes, claws and spikes dont make my cut for several reasons. Theyre generally only dangerous from one side or angle, they require maintenance or will become dull and useless, and the much-overlooked risk of getting their sharp edge stuck in something as exactly the wrong time is too great.

* BLUNT WEAPONS: For the reasons stated above, I am a strong believer in blunt weapons. They can be used against Zombies and hostile humans alike, with both lethal and nonlethal force. They are dangerous from most angles. They require little or no upkeep. And theyre more easily obtained than other specialized objects.

So when it comes to blunt weapons, what makes the top of my list? The common aluminum baseball bat. Bats are easy to carry and store, they dont necessitate any advanced training to be effective, and they can be used to poke, cross-check, and strike equally.

What do you think? Am I way off base on this? Whats your pick for best Zombie defense weapon?

the ability to dispatch a zombie at distance is key. crossbow or compound bow... silent and reusable ammo, can easily penetrate the skull to destroy the brain. while a bow takes some training it has a much higher rate of fire. while a baseball bat is a decent improvised weapon, it requires strength to be able to crush a skull with a single hit and might require multiple blows to dispatch a zombie. one would be better off to fashion it into a tetsubo or trench club. a designed weapon will always outperform an improvised one. a well made sword or machete is a better choice. a few mins a day with a whetstone will keep it serviceable. a glaive if you can find one would be even better. one should take some martial arts classes and familiarize oneself with medieval or martial arts weapons to be better prepared for a zombipocalypse
