Perhaps, it's because potatoes are dug up from the ground, & symbolize death, in a way, that puts you off? I will investigate the fear of potatoes, & report back to you. - When I was in Britain, I quite enjoyed fish & chips, with mooshy peas. The cookery was not that pleasing, especially in Scotland, where too many dishes involved a sheep, who had died to no good purpose.
