Someone just left this comment for me on my myspace blog that questions our governments possession of our land. I thought I'd share it as well as my response.

The answer is no, er well sort of: google eminant domain. the government will give you fair market value for your property, granted it probably wont be fair, but niether is life and we need our damn roads...
as for the rest of your rant, you are correct, we need to be constantly evolving and solving social problems, however starting from scratch is not a real answer. have you seen other societys that have recently started from scratch? we have one of the best standard of living in the world, and we should do as much as possible to not F' that up!

Freedom for security, than? Sounds like a great offer if you've recently had a lobotomy. So, just like most Americans, what you are saying is that you'd rather keep your mouth shut & remain with your valuable possessions than to stand up & fight for the greater good. Typical.
This country has NEVER been a good place. Yes, we have a great standard of living compared to elsewhere. Yes, we are aloud to voice our opinions without immediately being imprisoned. Notice I said, immediately. Don't think it doesn't happen.
But what have we done for the entire 200+ years that it has existed? Nearly caused the complete extinction of the indigeounous people to this land. Taken over other areas outside of the Continental US that never wished to be apart (i.e. Puerto Rico, Alaska, Hawaii, etc.). We've managed to almost bring the entire world into a nuclear winter during the cold war. Oh & let us not forget the image that we everyday present to the world of just who we are.
MTV Cribs, My Sweet Sixteen, Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous, American Idol, Big Brother, The Real World, the media in general as it's primary focus is on any celebrity that snorts coke, kills someone with their car, goes to rehab, serves 30 days in jail (not prison) & than is released to do it all over again.

Bunch of spoiled fucking degenerates that take everything for granted. People have been so blatantly dumbed down in this society that most kids read a book about as often as they go spelunking. Fuck, most kids are so dumb that they don't even know what spelunking is.
I'm just being cynical. You Goddamn right! I have more than enough justification for doing so. Everyday our situation worsens. But people are so self-involved that if it has no direct impact on themselves or their immediate loved ones, their only interest comes from an entertainment standpoint. Violence gets great ratings.
They support this war because they're not the ones fighting it. Either that or they are so ignorant that they would never dare to question those in charge. "Gee, they got the job. That must mean they know what they're doing, right?" Just like the cover of the London Times after Bush was re-elected, "How Can 50 Million People Be So Dumb?"
The entire world sees that this guy is about as sharp as a baseball, yet we re-elected him. Even better... we're so dumb, that every 4 years we fall for the same stupid bullshit time & time again. If you honestly believe that there is a difference in the 2 parties... than you sir are certainly smart enough to be a Bush.
A wise man once said, "If voting changed anything, we would of outlawed it long ago." Another said, "It's not the people who vote that count. It's the people who count the votes." The latter was a murderous tyrant himself, but apparently, you can't bullshit a bullshitter.
No simpler truth could be stated about democracy. Just as communism, democracy looks all fine & dandy on paper. But put into action, corruption will always dominate. We've all heard the saying that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Who do you suppose they were talking about?
So, in closing, while you sit on your happy ass for whatever remains of your simple life with your nice house & car, wife & 2.3 kids, white picket fence & all because you are afraid that rocking the boat could cause your fragile little world to fall apart, I will do everything in my power to change this place & the entire world for the better.
& if I die trying, I have not died in vain as there will always be someone behind me to pick up where I left off. Give me Liberty or give me Death!

Wow...that is quite the speech and so very true it is...well okay so we are friends on here but i dont think we have ever really talked and i decided that if i am friends with someone shouldnt i at least say hi...all that bullshit about america makes me glad that i am living in england right now, not that every country doesnt have problems but it is nice to be away from the home ship...it is great getting into conversations with British folks about Bush, it makes me smile to hear the shit that they say, it is true from the outside you can tell it is so fucked up, and maybe that is a lot of peoples problems they have become to comfortale with their lives that they are unwilling to risk anything and all they need to do is look in at our society from the outside and they will see how fucked it really is!!!
