Granted, I haven't been following you long, but from what I can tell your brain is as beautiful as everything else. It's their loss, truly. And people who say shit like that deserve nothing less than being blocked. You're fucking awesome. And you look AMAZING on stage.
78walk:
There are a staggering, frightening number of shallow and/or mean-spirited people in the world. Doing your best to weed them out will pay great long-term dividends, even if it can seem to make life more difficult in the short run. Learning to play an instrument is hard work, and doing it in public takes courage that I will always recognize, even for bands I dislike. Congratulations - hope this is just the beginning of a long and successful musical journey.   :)
pwnchstr:
Sweetie, you just keep rockin that bass and doing what you do. The ones that matter will be there in the end.

I totally understand your frustration at being objectified, but frankly, I think this is a problem with social media in general, specifically how it has become such an important source of self-validation in the first place. The kind of comment like the one you provide as an example is unfortunate, but entirely unavoidable and it becomes all the more disheartening once one begins measuring one's self-worth in quantifiable "followers". The sad part is that you've taken it to heart, when you're clearly a talented individual. I don't blame you for that at all, but it's the flip side to the self-validation you feel when you see the phone blinking in the morning, as you suggest. The internet can stroke your ego, but it can also shatter your confidence, if you allow it to be the measure of your self-esteem - which is the point you're making, I suppose. At the end of the day, as long as you're comfortable in your own skin (and head!) and take only the positive experiences away from your online interactions (and perhaps a bit of constructive criticism), these internet trolls will come and go without you noticing or caring. That said, I agree that, even if there's no denying many members are here just for the undressed "alternative pin-up girls" which the site advertises, this certainly doesn't excuse the kind of misogynistic drivel of which you've given us an example above. You're perfectly right to draw attention to it! More importantly, now: what's the song you're playing in this pic? :)

Rock on!

Jesus! Some dudes are just fucking pricks... As a drummer and just a music lover in general I would have been just as stoked to see this as any other pic in my feed bc it shows that you've got some other talent (and one that I greatly appreciate) other than just being physically attractive. 😍
lstfenix:
Eh. Fuck em. Rock out, take more bass pics. This pic is rad. Piss them off more and take pics of just different basses!
xcjx:
Actually just saw that pics and got my attention! Judge T-shirt, bass, live band... sounds like HC-punk thing. Now i'm curious! what's you band you're playing in? or filling in for? Don't pay attention to what that guys is saying. this pic is rad and you're not an object at all.
skella:

kalchaamer:
You forgot to tell us the name of your band... Because some people are interested in the person as well!!
tir_eoghain:
Maybe those 200 people were just not fans of Fenders? Screw 'em, you rock.
skella:
@tir_eoghain hahaha! could be! I need to track them down and tell them it wasn't my bass. Im a fan of Ibanez myself.
sythewin:
Don't pay attention to idiots. That you are gorgeous and take your clothes off is cool, but that can play bass is awesome!

Recently I went through an "Unfollow" binge because I suddenly found I simply couldn't keep up with it all, but easily in the "never unfollow" column was a very interesting and fun to read chick named @skella .  Came for the sets, stayed for the person!
justmefw:
The only reason I'm on instagram is to follow what the awesome Suicide Girls I follow are doing...   I come here to follow the blogs... unfortunatly it's longer and longer time between the blogs, everybody seems to use instagram and FB more and more. I'm affraid we just have to acnowledge the fact that after social media took off, humanity is on a downwards spiral... the apocalypse is not going to be zombies, but a population that's dummed down beyond repair...  just read the comments on any random post on IG or FB...
shamrocknrolla:
@skella Thank you! This blog hit home. Of course my platform is completely different being that I'm a fashion hair artist however, our contrasts have similarities.  I just recently took down my Facebook page as it was the only outlet I used for both clientele networking and recreation. Granted I could have made a LIKE page but I never posted anything that projected personal or political agendas in which that's ALL Facebook seems to be known for anymore. I posted a ton of hair blogs, photos from hair shows, instructional how to videos, etc. and my likes were many. However, anytime I posted a hike, a kayak trip, photos of friends and family, or sets of me surfing I'd be lucky if I received anymore than 5 to 15 likes. And of course I too don't need their validation but I would receive private messages asking me if I was going to continue with this chaotic blend of personal and professional life or if I was going to keep it professional. It sucks that people have no interest in who the person, the provider of service, the artist is... as if the service, be it music, modeling, or anything is only there for everyone's Personal Instant Gratification (their P.I.G.) and nothing more. That's what's disheartening. What happened to being.... HUMAN? Now I'm only on IG and Tumblr where Tumblr allows me to be ME. I'll soon start a Model Mayhem and MuseCube page my professional pages once I expand my portfolio in NYC. Again, thank you. This entry f*cking rocked! <3
