The anniversary of my friend, Brett, is approaching. A year has passed and you feel it as you live on. You feel it in every way when you see the empty chair.
I've sat to watch Star Wars twice and found out that I can't watch it and enjoy it. I think too much on sitting and enjoying the magic with my friend. How does one live up to such a noble man? Who sacrificed his own life for one to live another day.
It's unheard of to be that selfless in today's world. Then I became friends with the woman he saved. She has been an encouragement for my own endeavors in life. I always handle talking to her with care but I need not to.
She touched me today. All of us have gotten a tattoo of a compass in honor of Brett. For he lived for the adventure of life and UP was his favorite Pixar movie. She finally got her compass and it read, "you survived, now go live."
That shit brought a tear to my eye that my friend was awesome. My friend was a hero and we should aspire more to be heroic like that.
Brett was a good man. Brett was the hero he aspired to be. I miss my friend but so fucking proud he went out doing what was right by his heart.
Do that, my dudes. Live by what is right by your hearts, in compromised, and fearless. The world needs that and I believe everyone is capable of that.
Cause Brett believed that.
