Good shit in the newspaper today...
First, seriously, what the fuck is wrong with Pat Robertson? Dude went to Yale Law and he's raving like a nutcase about wanting to assassinate Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela? Now, Chavez is a nationalistic prick and a thug - to be sure. In principle, I do like his notion of building up the "developing world" and instituting more trade between developing nations. There's no reason that only "rich countries" should direct this kind of behavior. But, Chavez is still a jerk. That said, ya know, killing folks for being obnoxious is a bit much. Seriously, how is Robertson a mainstream cultural figure? What the FUCK? I mean, does the left even have anyone that nuts who is like on TV all the time?
Second, not to be mean, but are military supporters all morons? All right, Cindy Sheehan might be a little reationary and not fully consider the finer points of American grand strategy. However, the woman has a valid point: Bush presented a case about going to war in Iraq (something about WMDs and terrorists) that was pretty much obviously and patently false (mayhaps a *lie* even). Because of this, people are dying. Are they dying because of bad intel? For reasons of political advantage? To fulfill Bush's idealistic, but poorly planned, crusade? I dunno. Cindy Sheehan wants to know - and she has a right ot know. In a lot of ways, she is pushing an issues of legitimacy, accountability, and *responsibility* (as in: what kind of care and respect do we owe to those who are willing to defend us?). I find it incredibly obnoxious that this somewhat emotional but still totally valid question is met by asshats on the right with: "We support the troops!" I fail to understand why "support the troops" equates to "being sent to a shitty dessert for a bad reason to get shot at." But that's just me. God, now my head hurts.
Finally, there was great news from California - essentially, LGBT families are even closer to being "recognized" as "real" families. Basically, things like child support must now be paid even when a LGBT family splits. So good for the gays today!
However, one great thing - check out this picture of the woman (Emily B.) who won child support payments:
She's hilariousily attractive and normal. Just to piss off all the queer theorists I think.
