I feel like I need to get that old update out of here...And thanks to everyone for their kind words. I'm doing MUCH better. I'm pretty much all healed up, and getting by gumption back bit by bit. 
So, there's good news, and there's bad news. The good news is that they were able to fix my glasses, and that it looks like there a few apartments up north that meet our needs.
The bad news? I'm not sure we can get out of our current lease. I mean, I understand that I signed a contract, and honestly I feel really bad about wanting/trying to weasel my way out of it. It's just the kind of person I want to be. But, I'm really feeling the need to get the hell out of here. I've contacted a couple of friends who are lawyers, as well as a tenats' rights group based here in Chicago. We'll see where things go from there.
