I think our species is evolving at a very fast rate. 100 years from now things are going to be much different. I don't think we'll look much different, but our way of life will be drastically different.
Well, I think some of the original experimentation in those cultures was about something beneficial, and sometimes still is, but the majority of the culture usually falls into shallow dead ends. But yes, there certainly is potential.
