I don't think women are absent...ok here are my theories:
I think men and women feel things completely differently and that's the man problem. If men and women switched brains for a day, I think men would be overwhelmed with what love and happiness and sadness feel like. So overwhelmed with the power of these emotions that they would probably spend the whole day lying down. And Women, in the same switcheroo would be stunned by the low frequency of the same emotions, and probably wouldn't even recognize "love" with a man's heart.
I'm not saying they're not there, I'm just saying the intensities and frequencies and so low that it wouldn't register to a woman.
Theory 2- Back in college a dear sweet male friend of mine got into an argument about men and women and came up with this compromise and universal truth:
Women and men...gotta love 'em, despite all their drawbacks.

Which is sort of validated by theory one. :p
