Personally I would never pierce something myself. But that's just me. If your friend did hers, and to you, it looks good and you trust her, then by all means. let her do it. It will save you a lot of money. just be careful don't let it get infected. I just go to the shops because I know the people there and know they wont botch it up. unlike if I tried to do it myself. I knew a girl, who's friend pierced his own lip...he ended up getting a lisp.
So:
1. don't do it yourself, if anything get your friend to do it. but only if you trust her and she can do a good job.
1b. go to a shop to get it pierced. pay through the nose.
2. when your friend does it, make sure everything is sanitized as to avoid infection.
