liya:
Thank you for this blog post. I wholeheartedly agree with you that there is a very disturbing aspect we see in most mainstream porn today - violence and dehumanization of women on a mass scale, something we didn't see in "old skool" porn. Mainstream porn is no longer about a bunch of people having sex on camera and enjoying it, it's about how many possible appendages can fit into as many orifices of a given porn actress. Sexualization of rape needs to end.

Ok I confess I didn't read the end few paragraphs but, I got the gist of what you were saying and what you strongly disagreed with. I myself am 26, admittedly have watched my fair share. If I come across anything that looks like the chic would honestly not be enjoying herself or be in discomfort it makes me uncomfortable. Even standard deep throating if they're choking I feel bad for them. It just goes to show how twisted society is and how fucked some people and their fantasies are. I don't at all think girls should be able to be beaten or bent or choked or really treated inhumanely. You can still act out plenty of things or make plenty of hot movies without mistreating the actress
cibel:
@slim80 thanks for thinking that way.

@sertraline This is an incredible blog post in a myriad of ways. First, I want to thank you for making it all the way through "Hot Girls Wanted" - I for sure as fuck couldn't. I appreciate that you were able to so I could get a full and extremely thorough review. :)Second, your point of view is one I agree with, and you put it so eloquently that I want to hug you for it.Lastly, about your comment "I still think that abused people will have low self esteem and end up doing stuff like this where as someone who has a positive view of themselves will still view . . ." I both agree and disagree with you. In my own lifetime I have experienced my fair share of abuse - sexual and mental - in violent and passive ways. While I agree with you about abused people with low self esteem, I disagree that those same people can't also find it demoralizing. I think you'd find if you talked with multiple rape victims that for a fair share of them, sex isn't remotely stomachable anymore. For others they just ignore their "queezy stomachs" (for lack of a better phrase) and pretend everything is okay. And for others still, showing off our bodies, being proud of where we are, and owning that is more important that "sex" or attraction that comes from the naked body could ever be.The truth is, every woman (or girl as the case may be) is different. I think those in "Hot Girls Wanted" were not being honest with themselves on their limits and boundaries, and for that reason alone I couldn't countine watching it. Again, thank you so much for your thorough post. I did read it all, and I am very appreciative of you right now. :)
sertraline:
@sheika, I apologize if the comment you quoted was taken as "people who went through abuse do not find doing porn or porn in and of itself, as demoralizing"..I definitely did not mean it like that. I also want to share my confusion with you. I'd be more that willing to bet that if you took a survey of all the porn actors/actresses who did films in the 70s, a good majority of them were abused and or were addicts. I'd be more than willing to bet that if you took a survey of all the porn actors/actresses who did films in the 80's, a good majority of them were abused and or were addicts. I'd be more than willing to bet that if you took a survey of all the porn actors/actresses who did films in the 90's, a good majority of them were abused and or were addicts. What about the 2000's though? You see, this is the problem I have with this film. We don't know the background of these girls. It kinda felt like I should just assume that these girls come from healthy homes.@sheika you mentioned how for some rape victims, sex isn't remotely stomachable anymore. You hear one of the girls in the film say this, "sex to me doesn't mean anything,". I think that says a lot. But also pisses me off that the directors didn't expand on this. @liya @slim80 @sheika @cibel, In your world, your friends, your parents, your views, is being a porn star considered as glamorous?  You see, before I even heard about this movie, I had a huge bias as to why people do porn. After seeing this film, I am not convinced that a majority of the actors/actresses do it or initially got started in the business because it was fun. The thing is, I haven't been 18 for 20 years. I don't know how younger generations think. While it's hard for me to imagine that doing porn can be a career to aim for, times change, people change.
slim80:
I think people will generally be either for or against porn. My family are religious so they would all frown on any aspect of it. Personally do I find it glamorous? Uhm for me it's just entertainment I guess. I go through phases. Sometimes I won't watch it for a week and sometimes I'll watch it 4 nights in a row. I don't really consider it an ideal industry to try forge a successful career as the nature of it and some of the points you've made in your original post. There are some who have made a career out of it and done really well. So it's definitely possible but yeah it's pretty competitive these days and the styles have probably shifted for the worse. I am fairly respectful of woman though hence my disregard for any rough or disrespectful styles that the actresses would clearly not enjoy outside of the industry
sheika:
@sertraline I don't think anyone I know considers the life of a porn star "glamorous." I think perhaps it has its perks, but I wouldn't consider it glamorous. Like you pointed out, it's hard to say really what the motivation is for 18 year olds today, and that movie didn't really tell us.
