There are seven seasons.

It starts out pretty campy and cheesy, but the series gets darker and darker as it progresses. You'll notice it around Season 3 and 4.

There's actually quite a wonderful mythos behind it. Some grad students in Mythology, Archetypes, and so on have done their theses on the show and its mythology.

I like to call it "a soap opera for smart people".
