This @bloghomework has been so well covered by so many but it seems like I have run across a hundred quotes that are appropriate. Here is my favorite from the introduction by Alan Watts to "The Secret Oral Teachings In Tibetan Buddhist Sects" by Alexandra David-Neel and Lama Yongden:
"…Power games of this kind are not, however, the main concern of Tibetan Buddhism. On the contrary, the point is to realize that by virtue of what you are, have been, and will be, there is no need whatsoever to defend yourself or prove yourself."

Invocation of the Monty Python! Oooh....so much wisdom from that group. A little off the subject of haters but relevant to a community of people who have always felt like outsiders: the scene in Life of Brian where he addresses the crowd and says "you are all individuals" and the whole crowd replies "we are all individuals" then one person pipes up "I'm not" is priceless

Yes, priceless. I also find the scene in the coliseum discussing the different "fronts of judea" to be rather appropriate these days. "I thought we were the populist front, Reg." No, he's over there... "Splitter!"
