Meh, I hate being given a fake number. You do your best to not be a total creep, be a total sweetheart and buy drinks.... yet when you want to say, "Hey, thanks for hanging out with me." You get a message back saying, "Hey, she gave another guy the wrong number, sorry bro."
I'm not a creepy guy, I just want to have a good time with me, even if I am buying a few drinks for them. Maybe that's where I'm fucking up? Oh well. At least you guys are abrasive enough to tell me what I'm doing wrong.

It's a weird situation. Women will often accept drinks from men they are not interested in because, well, they like drinks. I don't think that necessarily works for picking up though. It really depends where you live though I suppose. Where I'm from a sense of humour and a different conversation is much more effective. I once had a very drunk man ask what my favourite fish was. I thought it was hilarious. But even complimenting something specific (like her hair or something) might be different enough to make you stand out.
