So what would cause a computer to shut itself down al the time? Sometimes before loading windows, sometimes after.

Temperature maybe?

I get BIOs error message about CPU speed, but I can only choose from 3 speed and the problem remians with all three of those.

If I rmanage to get in Windows, I can send an automatic error report and Windows then says the crash are caused by a new peripheric. I haven't installed anything on this machine for months.

confused
omisan:
It's probably the power unit. My graphic card is new.

I opened the tower and carefully removed most of the visible dust.

Can I unscrew the power unit and clean the dust out of it without unplugging all the wires?

I seriously can't imagine myself touching any of those dozens and dozens of wire. I'll never be able to plug them all back if I get a new power unit.

How much would a place like Future Shop charge for this? Will they need 2 weeks to do it? confused

Also, could the power bar where the computer is plugged by at fault here? I have 2 of those and I just swapped them.

This is the longest the PC has remained powered so far.

No, false hopes, still crashes.

Alright, I installed a new power supply. They only had one 300w brand at future shop. I didn't feel like shopping around for one, especially here in the east. So I took it.

You were right, it's not that hard to change. I only needed to plug 5 things. I just swapped the wires one by one from the old to the new unit.

Thanks a lot for the help.

Shit!

My PC turned itself off again after about 5 minutes, It wasn't the power supply then...It's not a virus either since it turns itself of before getting into Windows.

One thing is sure though, the longer I wait before turning on again, the longer it lasts. Which is why I suspected some sort of overheating problem at first. Maybe the fan on the mother board (or processor? isn't working anymore.
