smile yes I tried drinking a little bit... I had to strain it about 4 times through cheesecloth and coffee filters, it didn't have much character so I added some sugar which helps, kind of like a low grade beer. Happy easter to you

Just letting you know they -DO- make dog insurance if your dog is young enough to qualify. I could find out more info if you want - it helped a little with the operation (but not all of it) my dog needed, which was VERY severe ($7,000+)

I like that poem. I frequently find myself arguing with Libertarians on one of the forums where I post, and I'm going to give that to them.

I don't think capitalism is the devil, but I disagree that the devil is government, too.
molonel:
Libertarianism is a lot like Communism. It looks really good. On paper. It just doesn't translate very well into reality. If we lived in small microcosms where everyone had perfect mobility, perfect information and perfect control over their own lives, I'd be a Libertarian. But then again, if I lived in Middle Earth, I'd also love to be an elf.
voodoo_child:
Ok, I think some missed the point of the poem or lyric. The premise, as I understand it is that Libertarians, fearing government, give their freedom, their destiny to corporations (who, in the void of government, rule supreme).

By the way, thanks for not mocking me. wink

And I think socialism (though not necessarily communism) is not only possible, but is a historical inevitablilty. Marx wasn't wrong...he was just 100 years ahead of his time. You can't force evolution... As a society, we must reward poets, artists and philosophers as we currently do inventers, marketers and makers of widgets and doodads. Some day, there will be no jobs for burger flippers and textile workers. Will we let them starve? Or will they become our Picassos, Plaths and Platos?
thenewpope:
Very awesome journal. Thanks for the concern about my doggie. She seems to be doing better tonight...not so lumpy anymore.
voodoo_child:
You're right...but I think it would be inevitable if it we don't end up killing ourselves.

Obviously, a point in time would come (if the more plausible self destruction is avoided) when it is absolutely necessary to forgo individual desires and impulses for long-term rational planning in areas of food production and distribution, biological reproduction, healthcare, shelter, education, the environment, etc.

I only hope (other than avoiding the man-made apocalypse) that we don't wait too long to come to our collective senses.

I think I'd be a Noldor, personally.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about Communism. Libertarians live in a fantasy la-la land. Don't get me wrong. But Communism places absolute power in the hands of a few, and then assumes they will give it back when the time is proper. I can hardly call that assumption realistic.

I pronounce the name "mernal." It's short for Colonel Mustard, which was my online handle at one time.

props to ani.

and yes, the letters from the dog thing sounds exactly like something my mom would do. i once house sat for a family with a new puppy. i left little notes from the dog all around the house and they loved it. i also took a polaroid picture of the dog every morning. some people and their dogs, eh? wink
oryx:
i've been living in toronto, going to photo school, for three years now. my family (and my puppy) are on the other side of the country in bc, so i see them about twice a year.

my mom also lets me talk to my bailey on the phone.
